As NMRA President, I am thrilled to welcome you to the “Scenic City Express,” our 2026 National Convention being held in the historic rail hub of Chattanooga, Tennessee. This marks the first time our national gathering has come to this beautiful city, and the local team from the Southeastern Region has put together an extraordinary program that celebrates both our hobby and the rich railroad heritage of this region.
Whether you are a long-time member or this is your first national convention, this week offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in model railroading. From July 27 to August 2, you will have access to over 200 hours of high-quality clinics, unique prototype tours, and some of the finest layout tours in the country.
Chattanooga provides a spectacular backdrop for our event. I encourage you to take advantage of the Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum (TVRM) events, including the backshop tours and the dinner train, which offer a rare look at preserved steam and diesel operations. On the modeling front, don’t miss the Rock City Barn Modeling Contest and the “Modeling With The Masters” sessions to refine your skills alongside the best in the association.
Beyond the clinics and tours, conventions are truly about the fellowship of our members. I hope to see many of you at the National Train Show, and I especially look forward to our NMRA Members Meeting on Thursday and at our evening social events (extra fare ticket required). These gatherings are vital for us to share our progress and discuss the bright future of the NMRA.
There is more to see and do than any one person can fit into a single week, so I recommend visiting the official convention website at www.nmra2026.org to plan your schedule and prioritize the activities that mean the most to you.
If you see me during the week—whether in the clinic rooms, on a bus, or at the hotel—please stop and say hello. I always value the chance to hear your thoughts on how we can continue to make the NMRA the best organization for modelers worldwide.
Wishing you a memorable and productive week at the Scenic City Express!
